The Story/The Realization

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

A few years ago we learned that our son would more than likely be born with sickle cell. The doctors explained the long list of extended procedures and life long ailments… We’ll with lots of hope and tons of love to give we decided to give his birth the green light anyway! To date, he has not suffered through a single symptom or procedure. Nothing.

The story, however, is in the realization that regardless of our careers or the attempts to plan for the possibility of a lifetime of treatment, we would not be able to afford the medical bills.

Virus

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I contracted the oral herpes virus while on vacation in Hawaii in 1984. I have been suffering with painful and life changing outbreaks often ever since. I recently had my second child. Having children causes much stress and basic 'wear' on the body…causing frequent outbreaks. I haven't wanted to afford medication thinkng it would get better. It has only gotten worse. I don't want to go another day missing the fun I could be having with my children, because of the the pain and illness that comes with these outbreaks. I would like to finally try a suppressive med. to help releive some of the symptoms and live better days.
As of right now, I live them by taking Ibuprofin and Acemetophin (as much as the dosage allows) exactly on the hours prescribed. I try to avoid the products like chocolate and others that 'anoy' the condition. Rest as much as possible because being up and about makes the symptoms worse. It's terribly painful to eat and drink, at it's worst, but drink as much as possible to avoid hydration.

I CAN'T BE A BETTER MOM FOR MY CHILDREN……

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

MY INPATIENT THERAPY FOR ALCOHOL AND PSYCHIATRIC TREAMENT DESCRIBES MY CONDITION AS DUAL-DIAGNOSIS…..I HAVE OCD DISORDER, COUPLED BY ACUTE ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION WHICH FURTHER LEADS ME TO DRINKING. AT THANKSGIVING I FINALLY FIND A JOB THAT I LOVE, I AM GOOD AT, THAT I AM SUCCESSFUL AT, AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE HEALTH/PRX BENEFITS IN 30 DAYS. I FINALLY AM ABLE TO QUALIFY FOR THE BENEFIT, IT IS 13.00 A WEEKLY PAYCHECK DEDUCTION JUST FOR ME….I AM EXCITED BECAUSE FINALLY I MAY BE ABLE TO AFFORD MY MEDICATIONS FOR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION. THE FIRST PX WAS FOR DEPAKOTE FOR 146$ AND THE PX PLAN DID NOT COVER BRAND DRUGS….SO I REQUESTED A SUBSTITUTE FOR THIS AND THE PRICE WAS 72.00$ A MONTH EVEN WITH MY PX PLAN. I REALLY CAN'T AFFORD THIS AMOUNT BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS IN ORDER TO TAKE CARE OF MY CHILDREN AS A GOOD MOTHER. THE GOVERNMENT CHILDREN SERVICES TOOK MY 2YR OLD DAUGHTER AND 4 YEAR OLD SON AWAY INTO FOSTER CARE 8 MONTHS AGO, AND WILL NOT RETURN THEM UNTIL I CAN SHOW THEM THAT I AM ABLE TO STABILIZE MYSELF. I AM UNABLE TO OBTAIN A HIGH SALARIED JOB BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION AND PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE, NEEDLESS TO SAY,,,,I CAN ONLY WORK PART TIME AND THAT WOULD BE AT $8.00/HR WHILE I TRY TO DO ALL THE REQUIRED THERAPY THAT CHILDREN SERVICES IS ORDERING ME TO DO ON A DAILY BASIS IN ORDER TO HAVE MY CHILDREN RETURNED. I AM REALLY STUCK IN A DIFFICULT SITUATION TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH ALL THIS AT THE SAME TIME WITHOUT BEING OVERWHELMED SO ANYTHING THAT COULD HELP IN THE COST OF MY MEDICINES WOULD CERTAINLY BE HELPFUL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
